Nepal - Part 1
Day 13: We left Zhangmu (tibet) on Tuesday morning to cross the Nepali border. We met a German couple who shared a car with us to Kathmandu. Angie and Thomas have been travelling for 17 months!!!!!!! They gave me lots of tips about Cambodia - Laos and Thailand.
When we arrived in Kathmandu, we first went for a beer on a rooftop terrace. Then I finally saw my friend Jagat again. Jagat has an independent trekking organization:http://www.independent-trekkingguide-nepal.com/ We did our Nepal trekking last year with him (together with Oli & Stéphane). I can highly recommend him. He booked us a room in Yambu Hotel. When I checked it out on the internet I saw it was way too expensive for us (60 USD/night), I told him I couldn't afford it but he insisted and said he negotiated special price for special guest. We have a gorgeous room on the 5th floor in thamel with bathtub and a great shower for half the price ... thank you Jagat!!
In the evening we met with Ferdi, Angie and Thomas for dinner. We had a lovely evening and we had to take a paracetamol before we went to bed.
Day 14: wake-up call at 7 o'clock because I have to go to the Indian Embassy today. It opens at 9.30 but they recommended me to be there at 8 o'clock. I was number 5 in the queue. It took me until 10.30 only to give them a TELEX (!!!???!!!!!) and 300 Rup. The worst part, I can go back on the 28th for the application form in the morning (again in the early morning) and the Visa Pick up in the afternoon. The good part is that Yacine came with me and Angie&Thomas were there too, so it was not boring. After that we went back to thamel for some laundry and for some lunch in an Indian restaurant. I did some shopping for the trekking and then we had a lazy afternoon, finally!
In the meantime we have organized everything for our Nepal trekking. We're leaving the 20th for an 8 day trekking in the Langtang area.
Today we had to take the local bus to our trekking start. It was the most horrific experience I had so far in a Nepali bus.It was fully, fully crowded with people on the roof (so far, it's normalin Nepal)andNO real road to drive on. So we spend 8 hours on a bumpy ride, only mountain trails and vomitting passengers around us. Again I wanted to cry ... I feared for my life ;-) .... I'm definitely paying a 4WD on the way back.
Tonight is the last night we have internet access .... we will be in radiosilence for 7 days
To be continued
Yesterday we've put 3 new photoalbums about Tibet on the blog: Check it out
